Fasting During the (Spring) Holidays

Fasting During the (Spring) Holidays

Easter candy, spring pies, passover deserts....fasting doesn't really mix well! WHAT can we do to avoid a sugar hangover, allow ourselves to be OK if we cheat a little (or a lot), and how to get back on track to ride out our goals into summer:

  1. Set Your Intention: Before heading into the spring foodie whirlwind, take a moment to reaffirm why you've chosen to fast. Whether it's for health reasons, weight loss, or simply to feel more energized, remind yourself of your goals and the benefits you've experienced so far.

  2. Plan Ahead: Planning is key when it comes to sticking to your fasting routine during any type of holiday time. Take a look at your calendar and identify any upcoming gatherings or events where temptation might be high. Consider adjusting your fasting schedule accordingly or planning your meals around these events.

  3. Communicate with Loved Ones: Let your friends and family know about your fasting regimen. This way, they can offer support and understanding during holiday gatherings. Don't worry about backlash, they are just projecting. Keep your hustle up - you know why you're doing this!

  4. Practice Mindful Eating: During holiday meals, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement and overindulge. Instead, practice mindful eating by savoring each bite, chewing slowly, and paying attention to your body's hunger cues. This can help prevent overeating and keep you on track with your fasting goals. Also, it's OKAY to cheat a bit! Or even for any entire day, really...just not an entire week ;)

  5. Focus on the Experience: Holidays are about more than just food. Shift your focus away from the buffet table and towards spending quality time with loved ones, engaging in meaningful conversations, and participating in festive activities. By immersing yourself in the holiday experience, you'll be less likely to fixate on food.

  6. Stay Hydrated: It's easy to mistake thirst for hunger, especially when surrounded by tempting holiday treats. Stay hydrated with a fasting drink or fasting water by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. You can also enjoy herbal teas or sparkling water to add variety to your beverages.

Overall, be kind to yourself. Lastly, remember that any holiday time is a time to enjoy yourself and celebrate with loved ones. If you slip up and indulge more than you intended, don't beat yourself up. Instead, acknowledge the slip, refocus on your goals, and move forward with renewed determination.
